Health Risk Assessment added to Medicare Annual Wellness Visit

Medicare has added a Health Risk Assessment to the recently introduced Annual Wellness Visit (AWV), which is a yearly preventive health benefit for Medicare beneficiaries. It is interesting to watch the evolution of this annual visit, which Medicare describes as “a personalized plan to prevent disease, improve your health, and help you stay well.”

The Health Risk Assessment (HRA) is meant to gather current and historical health information, along with individual behavior (like “do you wear a seat belt when driving”), and functional levels of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). This new assessment may end up replacing much of the current wellness visit paperwork.
