CANTABMobile for Memory and Dementia ScreeningPosted by Christian Elliott - 23rd May 2012
Cambridge Cognition announced the general release of a new iPad application for the detection of early memory impairment that is common in Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. As we reported last September, the iPad application (named CANTABmobile) is based on the Cantab PAL test, a visual working memory test.
The CANTABmobile memory test takes about 10 minutes to complete, and is given by a trained health care professional. Currently, the application is only available in the UK, but we expect this tool to move into the US market shortly.
This new memory screening tool adds to a growing list of computerized cognitive screening applications that include CNS Vital Signs, CogState, HeadMinder CST, Medical Care (MCI-Screen), MedInteract (Computer Self Test-ALZselftest), MemTrax, NeuroTrax (MindStreams), Psychology Software Tools (CAMCI), Screen Inc (CANS-MCI), and Brain Resource (WebNeuro). Reliable, effective cognitive screening tests are necessary to get a handle on the rapidly rising rate of Alzheimer’s cases in the US and around the world. A combination of computer/touchscreen, online, and paper tests should be available to help screen potential memory problems for quick and effective followup.
A poll for readers: How would you like to take a memory screening test?
